Falling into fall- 5 tips to get you ready!

It may still be a heatwave around here with 90+ degree temps, but fall will be upon us before we know it! Today we are sharing 5 tips on EASY ways to start saying good-bye summer and HELLO FALL. Each tip should take less than 15 minutes, but will feel so good once done!

1.Don’t just pack away summer gear

Before packing away your sunscreen take a few minutes and check expiration dates. If it will expire before you use it again, get rid of it now. Don’t pack it away to take up space in a drawer or cabinet.  Same with towels. Did any take a good beating this year? Donate those to a good animal shelter or other location that takes used towels. No use packing anything away that you will just have to get rid of come spring 2020!

2.Go through your closet(s)/drawers

Take a look through your clothes, especially at your summer section.  How many of the items in this section did you NOT wear this summer? If you haven’t worn it in the past season, think about the likelihood you will wear it a year from now.  It might be time to say good-bye to a few pieces of clothing that didn’t get any love this summer. Donate them so they can get loved by someone else.

3.Prepare for cold/flu season

Now is a great time to go through your medicine cabinet. Cold and flu season will be here before we know it. Get rid of all your expired medications and take stock of what you MIGHT need to prepare for the winter.  There is nothing worse than needing Nyquil at 1 am only to discover that you only have an EMPTY box from last year still in your medicine cabinet.

4.Prepare to be home-bound more

Colder temps usually mean some more time inside. Now is a great time to clean up your DVR to make room for fall shows, football games, and all Hallmark/Lifetime movies you can handle! Other good items to sort through to see if they have all the pieces and are relevant to the stage of life for your family are: books, movies, video games, board games, and puzzles.

And lastly, if you are a lover of podcasts, clean up your podcast library.  We LOVE to listen to some great podcasts, just know they take up A LOT of storage space on your phone.  Delete any episodes you have already listened to. Consider deleting apps, audio books, photos, videos, games, old texts and voicemails on your phone.  All huge storage suckers.

5.Reset your garage

Take inventory of your garage and assess what outdoor toys (both kids and adult toys)  got all the love this summer. Throw away anything with too many missing pieces to salvage or items that have holes (pools, deflated balls, floats). Donate outgrown bikes, helmets, strollers, golf clubs, fishing poles, etc.

Now is also a great time to throw away dead plants/flowers on your porch. And start thinking about what color mums and wreath you are going to get out soon to welcome fall!

We are not wishing away warm temperatures, but fall is coming whether we want it or not! Just take a look around Hobby Lobby or Target and you will  see ALL the fall things! Make the transition a little easier on yourself and get prepared for the cooler temps. Besides, after this heat wave, some 60 degree temps with a big bowl of chili by a fire doesn’t sound too bad!

We get it! Managing all the kids’ important papers is one of the biggest struggles our clients and followers talk about.  What do you keep? Throw away? What will your child REALLY want to look at 20 years down the road?

One thing we know for sure is that NO ONE will want 15 storage bins filled with miscellaneous items from their childhood. Read below for our top 5 tips on how to decide what to keep and what to let go.
